, this mail is not about a birding tour, but rather about Guran Guran's (my band) first release with English vocals. A cheerful song with funny lyrics and lots of nostalgia aptly called "Feels Like Some Summer". Everyone can need a little bit of positive vibes to get into the summer mood.
If you are waiting for my birding news, I will send some later today or tomorrow, so please look out for it, and meanwhile have a listen/view to this catchy song with a Spanish intro and a beat that may remind you of Clash. It shall only take 2 minutes and 45 seconds of your time.
There are two Swedish words you may not understand:
- Djurgården is a huge park in Stockholm, where Swedes will go for picnic and outdoor games on sunny days. Also the name of my hockey and football team I route for.
- Brännboll, is something like Softball and is very popular in the summer played by kids and adults together.
If you prefer, here is the Swedish version of the same song.
Which one did you like the best?
By the way. There are some birds in the video. Can you ID them correctly? Let me know!
The song is somewhat silly and nostalgic about the Swedish summer. Every year there are songs that become summer hits and they often involve our relationship towards the summer. We even have a special word for these summersongs: sommarplåga (literally summer pain but it can be translated to summer brainworm). A song that really sticks.
The chorus of our song is very catchy with alliteration of the words Some Summer/Som Sommar. The song was written in 1992(sic !), but only released now as my band Guran Guran got back together and recorded the song last year and mixed and finalized the production three weeks ago.
Sometimes it takes some time to get things done! 27 years is a long time, though.
One funny tidbit is that I met a birder named Björn Engelman when I was in Sweden recently. It turns out, he is a world famous master engineer who has mastered works by Britney Spears, Benny Andersson from ABBA and Per Gessle from Roxette. He offered to master our new tune for free!
The mastering is like the last polish before the record is released. With Bjorn's help and the mix by Håkan Sörle (from excellent Swedish group The Baboon Show) it sounds amazing. We are very proud of the results.
How to create a viral song that gets heard.
Let me tell you a little bit how things work in the music industry. It is extremely difficult to get heard and to cut through the immense amount of music that is produced and published online. If songs are not played a lot on for example YouTube,
Spotify or Facebook, the algorithms will not pick it up and present as newsworthy. All means to catch some attention in a short time span to create that momentum for a new release necessary. Hence this email to you. Will you help me push this song to a larger audience? We just need 3 minutes of your time, a comment and a share.
I hope you can help us by listening and spread the song to friends of yours by direct messages and shares.
It also helps a lot if you put the song on repeat on Spotify, add it to your playlists and click on follow Guran Guran.
To be able to monetize plays on YouTube one needs 1000 subscribers, so therefore please click on the subscribe button for our channel so some of the studio costs can be covered. I would really appreciate it.
Add this song to your favorite streaming service, and a big thank you if you download a high definition version of the song, which further help to cover the studio costs.
Here are all the links you need.
Tack så mycket. Thank You VERY MUCH!
Glad Sommar - Happy Summer!
....and remember...
...it is autumn before you know it!
Next email is about birds. I promise!

P.S. Do you use Facebook? I have learnt a lot what makes posts get more views in the last couple of months. The most important way to get posts to become viral on Facebook is to create conversations. Therefore, apart from
Liking, please leave a +5 word comment on the videos on Facebook, tag some friends, and share with +5 words on your own wall. This will create a lot of momentum for the songs and who knows maybe they will indeed become summer hits before the summer is over.
