Gunnar here! I'd like to meet up with you.
I just want to give a shout out about all the places where we can meet in person to discuss birding in Peru and elsewhere with Kolibri Expeditions, or maybe just hang out with a beer. I am attending various birding festivals during the last half of the year, so if you have the chance it would be great to meet up. I am also scheduled for some talks - and believe it or not - some rock concert with my old band Guran Guran. Let's meet up this fall and have a BIRD PARTY.

I shall be in the PromPeru stand in Marquee 2. Stand 48-49. You should come around. PromPeru is doing a raffle with some great prizes. Kolibri is donating a 5 day trip to Central Peru for instance. I shall be doing a short talk on the birding possibilities there on Saturday Aug 19 at Lecture Marquee 3 at 2 pm.
Here it a short synopsis.

Central Peru is a forgotten part by birders who come to Peru in spite of having a more endemics than any other route in Peru including many threatened species. It is easy an inexpensive to get to with public transport and does involve expensive domestic flights. The area has a number of recently described species and many new species which yet need formal descriptions.
If you want to hangout, I will also be at the Birds and Beer event at the Three Crowns - Steamin Billy. Check out the Facebook Event. It is likely that I'll do some singback of my birding songs, and have my brand new CD for sale. If three Swedes show up I'll do a song in Swedish too!
As many of you know, I am training for Chicago Marathon in October, so if anyone feels up to go for a run let me know. I shall be arriving late in Thursday, but will try to get some mileage in on all three days. Making a run on the Rutland peninsula is just magic.
On Sunday, I am sure we shall offer some Pisco drinks.
Falsterbo Bird Show, Sweden Sep 1-3
Fast forward. After the Birdfair I shall be in Sweden for three weeks. An opportunity see my grown-up daughter and my mom, to do some concerts, promoting the new album and participate in Falsterbo Bird Show. The latter I attended also last year, and it was a very good event. I'll have a stand and I'll do a talk there as well. This time a little more general talk about birding in Peru on Friday Sep 1 at 2:20 pm. On Saturday, there will be a
singback concert with my songs at Mässingshornet Pub in Malmö.
On Sep 9, I shall run Stockholm Half Marathon and in the evening Guran Guran will take the stage for a live rock concert at Snövit pub in Stockholm. The new CD will be available.
American Birding Expo, Philadelphia Sep 29-Oct 1
American Birding Expo has moved to Philadelphia this year. We attended the first one in Ohio in 2015, but could not make it in 2016. It shall be good to see US friends and customers. I hear that there will be a number of birding companies there from all over the world, so it shall be a good place to make connections. It is likely that I will be doing a talk there as well.The weekend after the Expo, it Chicago Marathon and I am participating. I am not as trained as I would like to be, but I shall still do my best. The time in between the Expo and the Marathon I am trying to fill with birdtalks.
So far it is confirmed.

I am trying to organize more meet-ups while on the road, there will possibly be something in Michigan on either Oct 3 or Oct 5 or both. Maybe Madison, WI on Oct 6. And some sort of birds and beers meetup after the Marathon in Chicago on Oct 8. I would like to do some talks as I drive back to Washington DC for my flight back to Peru. Maybe Indianapolis/Cincinnati/ Columbus on Oct 9, Pittsburg on Oct 10 and DC area on Oct 11. Do you have any contacts?

Asian Bird Fair 17-21 Nov
The birdwatching market for outfitters like ourselves is changing. Lately we have had several bird photography groups from China with big lenses and big tripods. It is a bit different from our ordinary birding tours, but we do enjoy it. And our clients get photos like this.

So I found a very inexpensive ticket to Korea and will hence attend the Asian Bird Fair Nov 17-21 in Ulsan, South Korea. Looking very much forward to it, and hope to meet many people who are wanting to come to Peru. Although English will be main language at the event there are many people who speak Mandarin, so I hope to get to practice some of the little Mandarin Chinese I have learnt the last year.
